There are many different types of headaches. Some people are lucky enough to rarely get headaches and others are plagued by migraines and chronic neck pain regularly.
There are different types including tension headaches, migraines, headaches from dehydration and sinus headaches. As a chiropractor in Kirkland, I see many people with complaints of headaches. Below is an explanation of the most common types of headaches we treat at PrimeSpine Chiropractic Center.
Tension Headaches: These are by far the most common form of headaches. 75% of all we experience are this type. Many people describe a tension pains as achey, dull pain with throbbing pain and sometimes tension behind the eyes. These tension headaches are often experienced with neck pain.
They can last from 30 minutes to multiple days. In some cases, chronic tension may persist for many months. Although the pain can at times be severe, tension headaches are usually not associated with other symptoms, such as nausea, throbbing or vomiting.
Spinal misalignments (subluxations), especially the upper neck and at the base of the skull. Trigger points are often found in the neck region. When the top cervical vertebrae lose their normal motion and position, muscle spasms are experienced. Chiropractic care is highly effective in treating this condition.
Migraine Headaches: Migraine headaches are severe throbbing headaches. They are often experienced with nausea and or light sensitivity. These migraine headaches can last from as little as a few hours to as long as a few days. Many of those who suffer from migraine headaches experience visual symptoms called an “aura” just prior to an attack that is often described as seeing flashing lights.
Chiropractic Care: There is a large amount of research showing chiropractic care is highly effective in treating headaches and relieving neck pain, it can even help decrease trigger points. A chiropractic exam can help determine which type you may be experiencing. Whether it’s a tension, migraine or neck pain with trigger points. More often than not the upper neck vertebae is a major contributor to your headache. Please visit our Totem Lake location today.
